Chemical equilibrium
and routes to K

There is no in-person class on 6 November. Follow this video lesson and one worksheet, then investigate the same reaction in Lab 12. Begin with a short response to your Week 4 questions. We will meet onsite again on Friday, 13 November 2026.

Open these two things first

  1. Start the narrated Week 5 video at slide 1.
  2. Keep the six-page worksheet beside you.
  3. Use a calculator or spreadsheet for arithmetic. Open Lab 12 when slide 19 asks you to.

The two-page Lab guide helps you find controls. Worked solutions are for checking after an attempt. You do not need to read every available resource.

Follow the questions in this order

The work minutes below exclude video playback. Recording is counted once in the total above. Keep Pause for activities enabled in the player. It waits for your Continue button; it does not require you to finish every question.

Week 5 activity schedule, with video slides, worksheet sections, separate work time and instructions.
VideoWorksheet sectionWork minOpen, do and check
Slides 1–4R1–R2 · Review Week 48Worksheet p. 1. Distinguish partial and total pressure. Check the gas equation and Langmuir equation independently before checking the total balance. Pause at slides 2 and 3; check at slide 4.
Slides 5–9A1–A3 · Build the reaction quotient10Worksheet p. 2. Write amounts, mole fractions and Q for A₂ ⇌ 2A. Pause at slide 8 before viewing slide 9.
Slides 10–14B1–B4 · Direction and two routes to K16Worksheet pp. 2–3. Use the natural logarithm and consistent energy units. Pause at slide 10 and slide 13. Check at slide 14.
Slides 15–18C1–C4 · Solve reference and pressure cases23Worksheet pp. 3–4. Calculate extent, amounts, fractions, atom balance and Q. Pause at slides 15 and 17 before their checks.
Slides 19–22D1–D4 · Lab 12 reference and pressure27Worksheet p. 4; Lab guide p. 1. Prepare inputs for 5 minutes at slide 19. Watch the actual Lab demonstration at slide 20. Run 12A and 12B for 22 minutes at slide 21, then check the results at slide 22.
Slides 23Break10Save your worksheet and exported cases. Take a ten-minute break. This is included in the lesson budget.
Slides 24–28E1–E3 · Temperature and van’t Hoff15Worksheet p. 5. Use constant ΔH° to calculate K at 400 K and then equilibrium extent at 100 kPa. Pause at slide 26, check at slide 27, and read the model limits at slide 28.
Slides 29–30F1–F3 · Temperature case and JSON restore19Worksheet p. 5; Lab guide p. 2. Run 12C at 400 K and 100 kPa using constant-ΔH° van’t Hoff. Export it, then restore 12A and verify the recalculated inputs and results. Pause at slide 29; use slide 30 to check.
Slides 31–32G · Exit ticket and feedback10Worksheet p. 6. Bring one unresolved question to the 13 November class. Submit the existing Session 5 form once, wait for “Response received,” and keep your files.

Use each resource when needed

Keep a small, useful record

  1. Your original worksheet attempts and marked corrections. There is no need to rewrite the whole sheet neatly.
  2. A three-case comparison: 12A at 350 K and 100 kPa, 12B at 350 K and 400 kPa, and 12C at 400 K and 100 kPa. Keep the same feed and standard pressure.
  3. One atom balance and one independently reconstructed Q. State the selected K route, settings, units and model limitation.
  4. Your exported studies and a check that restoring 12A recovers its inputs and recalculated result.
  5. One specific unresolved question for 13 November.

Set ΔCp° = 0 for this lesson. The three required cases contain no inert gas. The fixed-pressure versus fixed-volume inert-gas explanation is a conceptual check, not another required Lab investigation. Heat-capacity corrections and custom reactions are optional extensions.

Submit the Session 5 form once

Open the Week 5 exit ticket and feedback

During slide 32, complete worksheet G and the form. Explain the pressure-only comparison, distinguish K from Q, and include one numerical result or independent check with settings and units. Report your actual study minutes and any step needing more explanation. You may answer in English or Thai.

Wait for Response received. The form is anonymous and does not identify individual attendance. Exporting a Lab file and acknowledging a player pause do not submit the form. Keep your worksheet and files; no extra required homework follows this lesson.

Next in-person class: Friday, 13 November 2026. Bring one question you want us to work through together.
